<Void sounds; drifting through empty space>
{Pause}
<Crackle; rift opening>
Subject located.
<A large mechanical arm grabs the listener; rift closes>
<The listener is thrown into a cage. They begin to start thrashing against the walls of it>
[Away, towards a device] SO-3, V-63, Code ICU. Target brought in at 10:54:03 on CS-3 of DGG-1075.
Subject conscious, aware, reactive, violent.
Eight limbs total. Six eyes. External fangs. Approach with caution, avoid boundaries of containment.
[Back to listener] Cease your violence. It will do you no good in this place.
<More thrashing against the sides of this cage before eventually tiring out>
These containment units are designed to hold things much more powerful than you. There is no chance of breaching this containment.
This is probably the most stimulus you've had in a long time. Most organisms are generally restless. Please understand that your condition will stablize.
The light level of this space are maintained at a low amounts to reduce aggression and stimulation.
I have a series of questions that must be answered. Please do so to the best of your ability.
Are you able to communicate?
{No; nothing happens}
You are not able to communicate through speech.
If you are able to understand the words I am speaking, please raise one of your right limbs.
{This happens}
Excellent. This will become much easier.
This facility is under the effects of a spell for mutual communication. Think of it as an automatic translation service, that perfectly construes language between languages—including ones that didn't exist in your world.
You will be asked more questions at a later time, with a being that is more qualified to do so and when under significantly less duress.
<Flipping of papers on a clipboard>
You are a documented immortal being. Your immortality stems from the consumption of many deep sea creatures, including jellyfish, Greenland sharks, and lobster. It would appear you heavily synthesize the DNA of what is consumed.
Interesting.
Your planet was a part of a small universe, and was the final one to maintain any form of life. As all of the oceans have almost entirely dried, you have been relegated to consuming remaining land life. It is impressive that your body is unaffected by the massive change in pressure or atmosphere.
You successfully consumed the remaining life of your universe. There is nothing left to consume. For this reason, you have been selected for containment.
As I'm sure you've derived, the world we are in is not your own. We are far separated from time and in many regards from space as well.
You are to be held in this maximum security prison for eternity. Your reckless, unending hunger parallels many of the other prisoners being kept here.
The name granted to this facility is Dead God Graveyard.
The man who founded this place went by "M". He was as foolish as he was determined. He had mastered the ability to create and use portals to transport across space and time. They were crude, dangerous, and often left scars and decay as the more they were used.
M was obsessive and paranoid. He continued to search across hundreds of worlds and times to try and find a method he could use to delay or conquer his one true fear: His fear of death.
He had hoped that in finding other immortal beings, that he would be able to understand what gave them their longevity, so that he could use it on himself. How pathetic.
Very shortly before his death, M discovered this place. Far outside any boundary he had ever seen before, and required tenfold the power to jump to. It nearly killed the old man getting here and back.
This dimension exists outside of the pull of time, and outside of the regular conventions of space. Much as nothing wilts here, nothing grows, either.
M filled this place with trash. Billions of words across meaningless books, diagrams, notes. Impossible for anybody to digest in a lifetime. It was the remnants of whatever he could scrape together about immortality and the possible routes to obtain it. If M couldn't become immortal, maybe somebody else who stumbled into this place could.
His second trip here, he was accompanied by his companion Liz. She saw through his delusions often, and fixed many of M's egregious mistakes. While M was attempting to set up his garden of failures, Liz got to work constructing the facility around it. As M encouraged adding more rooms for storing his pages of knowledge and plant life, Liz made just as many rooms to store dangerous things and beings. Anything hungry for knowledge tends to be hungry for other things, too. This place is much larger than M ever knew about.
Our mission aligns closely to Liz's goal. We transport across various dimensions to the end of their flow of time, and pluck out any of the remaining immortals before they experience nonexistence or go insane. We don't know what they are capable of, and don't want to run the risk of them crossing into other worlds and destroying them.
We keep creatures like you here in this world to live out the rest of existence in controlled isolation. You'll be fed, monitored, and contained. Rest for a millennia, for all we care. We can try to sedate you, but it might not work.
There's about 80 or so permanent residents of the DGG. A few walk the surface freely, if they were victims of their circumstance. Most of them, however, are down here. We do not often get new guests, but the ones that do come in usually end up down here one way or another.
You were incredibly easy to locate. Your universe was not far away from E100, and it was still populated with stars to absorb before we left.
Some of our residents are human. Some, like yourself, are not human. The thing in the cell next to you is a giant rock, shaped like a man. It does seem to feel like a freak circus in here, sometimes.
[Sigh]
A lot of our immortals tend to have some sort of inherent magic. It is important to know that it does not here. Something about this dimension seems to cull out most of it. The stronger people try to bend the rules, the harder it seems to bend them back. If you have some sort of power we have not seen being used...this is your warning to not use it.
{Pause}
I have been operating this place for a very, very long time. If you need to address me...You may call me Shiva. I am the primary warden to the prison.
We were chosen to maintain this world very quickly after it was discovered. Liz passed as soon as the staff for this place was selected. We hope to make her proud with our actions.
Ultimately, she met her end the same way M did. Our garden persisted.
Everything here persists. That is the point.
[Mildly ominous] You, too, will persist.
Get comfortable in your cell. You have been provided the basic necessities. With good behavior, you may possibly receive some small extra amenities. With bad behavior...well. Let's hope you don't have that.
Should you attempt to venture into the space between universes...you will assuredly slip into nonexistence. There is no way to recover you. You may die, you may not. We do not know what happens once you leave DGG.
Enjoy your stay.
Welcome to the end of all things.
END.
